Case #003 – Penni
Date: 12/2/24 – ongoing as of 6/8/25
Location: Vincent, OH / Barlow, OH / Route 47 / Staunton Ave / Pike Street / Montgomery Street / 7th & Warren Streets / Vine St / Euclid Ave / Spring St / Grove St / Oakwood Ave / Colgate Dr / Boathouse area / 6th & Washington / Mound Cemetery / Rt 676 / Marietta Career Center / Rt 550 / 4th St near Marietta Memorial Hospital
Pet Name & Type: Penni – Red Heeler (Cattle Dog), Docked Tail, Pink Collar (appears loose)
Description of Situation: Penni was dumped near Barlow, OH on 12/2/2024 and has been on the run ever since. First seen again in Barlow on 12/5, with a trap set on 12/6. No further Barlow sightings after that. Last seen 12/7 heading south along Rt 339 in Veto. Highly skittish, resourceful, and constantly moving, she has survived independently for several months with sightings across a wide range of Marietta and surrounding areas. She’s easy to spot thanks to her red coat, docked tail, and pink collar. Confirmed sightings and trail cam activity suggest she’s using wooded cover and creek lines for shelter.
Search Methods Used: Cell cam feed stations, thermal drone support, community coordination, feeding stations, active surveillance with volunteers, and social media outreach. Multiple cameras and feeding stations have been placed in key travel areas. Most recent confirmed movement: Colgate Dr near the Elks Club, Harmar/Boathouse neighborhood areas, 6th & Washington toward Mound Cemetery, Rt 676 near the Career Center (reported June 6), and a potential sighting on Rt 550 around 3:00 PM (direction east/west unclear). June 8 update: seen at 1:36 PM near the sinkhole at the end of 4th Street, between Marietta Memorial Hospital and Saint Mary’s Catholic School, running toward the playground.
Trap Location: As of June 8, ~2:00 PM, a live trap has been set in Collegate Marietta area.

Notes & Lessons Learned: Volunteers report increasing difficulty as Penni becomes more evasive. She was seen running frantically during a storm on Rt 676, and is now believed to be working a wide loop through wooded and residential areas. Emotional fatigue is high among responders, but coordination between Kara, Sarah, Nola, Holli, Teresa, and Tom continues with strong commitment. Traps, cameras, and response teams are in place and ready. Teresa is pursuing permission for cemetery access. A public sighting map and timeline is now live to help track her movements and guide response: https://maps.app.goo.gl/HoQVJNTvXVCSqH5U9. Penni’s agility and awareness continue to challenge progress, but the effort remains steady. Multiple community members have offered yards for feeding stations and trapping (notably near Colgate), and coordination continues for trap transport using volunteer vehicles.
